The ladies in CLIQUE present a show exploring the various meanings of Imprints & Impressions while emphasizing the importance of individual perspective and its effect on perception. Artists consciously alter references to intentionally influence each viewer’s experience. The creative process is ultimately the deconstruction of reality followed by a reconstruction filtered by the artist’s impressions, or intentions.  A sense of individuality is ingrained in us (and often encouraged) through our unique life experiences which inform our impressions eventually imprinting on us, reemerging as perceptions.Clique member Olivia Chen presents a series stemming from her fascination with the western cultures obsession with obtaining perfect teeth. Olivia masterfully renders and ‘sculpts’ dental molds with paint in undifferentiated space forcing the viewer to concentrate on unique character of the teeth themselves. While Chen presents physical manifestations of ‘impressions,’ Holly Mathews explores the effect of individual perspective on perception. Holly’s expertly rendered ink splotches evoke Rorschach's infamous psychological experiments while also adding a distinct new twist. The abstract designs seem to lift off the canvas metamorphosing into physical forms of the artist’s realized impressions. In yet another take on the show’s theme, Brandi Lee takes the viewer on a journey through our society’s ‘Imprint’ on the world around us. Specifically, Brandi comments visually on our effect on the environment and endangered species through Styrofoam carvings and other three-dimensional pieces laced with carbon. The metaphor is clear, and the artist invites the viewers to ‘touch’ the art – adding another dimension to informing their impression. Finally, Jennifer Hansen presents a body of work inspired by a feeling, rounding out the show with seemingly fragmented glimpses into the artist’s mind. Hansen’s cityscapes are peppered with isolated figures and ‘wings’ descending around the human forms symbolizing protection and safety.A special feature of this show will be a 25 piece collaborative painting the ladies will complete blind to what the final assembled image will be. Each artist has been discretely emailed 5 images by the renowned teacher and artist Kevin Moore. Kevin has 'directed' the ladies and set some general guidelines, but they are own they own to form their own impression of each image. The 12" x 12" paintings will be sold separately, and Kevin Moore will own all rights to the completed image. We hope you enjoy the finished result.
